Starry Night was painted by Van Gogh in June 1889 at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy in Provence. He had just experienced his second nervous breakdown, for which he was admitted to the facility. The painting is considered one of the most famous artworks in art history. It is part of the masterpieces at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
